Perceivant, an education technology company that replaces traditional textbooks with cost-effective, interactive and data-driven learning experiences, today announces that Michael Thurston has joined the company as a managing editor. In this role, Thurston will oversee Perceivant’s editorial process, which includes developing and editing textbooks and other course materials used by partner universities.
“We are thrilled to add Michael to our growing team whose extensive background will further enhance Perceivant’s value proposition of providing unique editorial solutions to top universities nationwide,” said Brian Rowe, founder and CEO of Perceivant. “Together, Perceivant looks forward to continuing to ignite change among college classrooms by offering emerging technologies while making textbooks more relevant, meaningful and engaging for students.”
Thurston has more than 18 years of experience in publishing higher education textbooks and instructional content. Previously, Thurston served as a freelance development editor by working with authors, publishers and miscellaneous clients to edit and format tens of thousands of pages as well as hours of videos in educational materials. This included assisting in the creation of nearly a hundred lessons for the International Baccalaureate® program on topics such as history, mathematics and business.
Prior to that, Thurston spent more than 15 years at Pearson Education working as a production and development editor. In these roles, Thurston assisted in the creation of hundreds of books, videos and educational materials for both print and web. In addition, Thurston oversaw various project teams including authors and technical writers throughout the editorial process. He also aided in the signing of several books, which included establishing relationships with new authors and peer reviewers.
A native of Vincennes, Indiana, Thurston graduated from Indiana University in 2000 where he earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism.
“I’m excited to join Perceivant and work alongside educators to create compelling content solutions that enable higher levels of student engagement and establish more successful learning environments,” said Thurston. “I look forward to further enhancing Perceivant’s product offering alongside such a passionate and innovative team while conducting positive change within the higher education industry.”
